AD – My Five Essential to Life Sensory Home Upgrades

Is something missing from your home, but you can’t quite put a finger on it? Seen some great renovation ideas on Instagram, but worried about biting off more than you can chew? Making your home appeal to all of your senses doesn’t mean having to make huge changes, it can be as simple as scenting a room, having a clear-out, buying a fancy appliance or investing in the latest gadget. RW Invest are the masters of creating stunning living spaces and they got in touch to challenge me to write a post for the homeowner looking to stimulate their senses, so here’s a home upgrade idea for all five: sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch.

Sight – Decluttered Décor

When thinking about making changes in your home, one of the simplest things that come to mind is to declutter. To make your home appear easy on the eyes, think about some of the ways you can simplify the furniture and tackle clutter room by room. Don’t underestimate the impact of a fresh lick of paint in a neutral tone to create the ultimate paired back look. For inspiration, RW Invest is a great property investment company to look towards. Their innovative, luxury apartments boast minimalist, efficient uses of space that are perfect for young tenants after an urban lifestyle. I’ve lived in flats all my life and I’ve tried to incorporate the minimal contemporary vibe into my current home. I love the calming effect that an open, airy space can have.

Feel – Temperature Control

Your home should be like a welcoming sanctuary and temperature is a huge part of that. If your finger is on the pulse, a smart thermostat, controllable through your smartphone, can be a great idea. Allowing you to control the central heating in your home remotely, you can prepare the house for your arrival, ensuring your toes are toasty and warm from the moment you set foot through the front door. Fancy huh?

Smell – Scented candles

Studies have proven that certain aromas can help you to feel relaxed, aiding sleep disturbances and anxiety, and when trying to wind-down of an evening, embracing some positive scents and pampering rituals in your home can be a great way to aid mental wellbeing. I recently attended an event that had been scented by a well known brand and the candles used added a whole load of atmosphere and ambience. Consider buying some high quality scented candles to scatter around your apartment or home, but be sure to snuff them out before you nod off. Waking up to a blazing inferno will no doubt give the opposite effect to relaxation.

Hearing – Smart speaker

Nothing elevates my mood like some good tunes. Those wanting some good quality sound in their home will no doubt be ‘all ears’ for this suggestion. A smart speaker can be a great way of getting high quality sound in your home at a scalable, affordable price. Circular speakers such as the Google home hub or Amazon Echo feature Omni-directional sound, which means the audio will come out from all directions. Plug these in the centre of a room downstairs, and they will give great room-filling audio, perfect for entertaining guests or annoying neighbours.

Taste – Gourmet Coffee

Nothing gets my morning going like a nice iced coffee and I now see the appeal of fancy new coffee machines, gourmet beans and accessories. if you’re not on a spending ban, why not do your taste buds a flavour favour and upgrade some of your appliances? Not only will a lot of these trendy appliances take some of the strain off yourself when in the kitchen, but they can help to massively boost your productivity and daily routine.
