How to Take a Step Up the Success Ladder

Define what success is to you

A carrie bradshaw type tapping away on her fancy pants MacBook complete with chic apartment and walk in closet? A powersuit and sizable paycheck? Success looks different to everyone but the great thing is that it’s never been easier to create your own version of it.

Be Smart with your Job Search

So, you’ve dreamed up your ideal job role, now it’s time to find it. Whether you are trying to find legal jobs in London or you want to create your own empire and want to get some valid experience under your belt, the chances are you’ll find it on the internet. Get ahead of your competitors by being smart with your job search. Reach out to local recruitment agencies and they can be finding your dream job for you while you polish up that CV, revamp your Linkedin profile and smarten up your social profiles. Use the internet to network and turn that dream job into a reality. Don’t forget about alternative channels that could lead you to your dream job. Sites like Twitter are a goldmine for untapped job opportunities. Bookmark the best job search websites such as Jooble, Indeed, ZipRecruiter to analyse the current vacancies and salaries.

Stay on Track

It’s easy to get caught up in day to day tasks and forget the bigger picture. Do you have clear goals set out for the month ahead? Even better do you have short term goals and long term goals? A great way to stay on the path to success is to document your goals clearly and place them somewhere you can see them each day. To make my transition back to work as productive as possible, I’ve started using a daily goal setter kindly gifted by Mål Paper. If you need a new planner to motivate you to smash your goals, this one is awesome. On these pages is where I create my dream client list, my daily tasks and my short, medium and long term business goals. It’s a great place to jot down your daily to do list and it helps you take a step to maximising your potential each morning.

Find your Tribe

Success whatever shape it takes can be isolating. It’s tempting to hole up in your home office or batton down the hatches in the boardroom until your hard thought up idea materialises. Regardless of the industry you are trying to tap into, there are ride or die best friends waiting to cheer you on. Stepping up the success ladder isn’t a case of all work and no play. Speak to people where ever you go, connect with those you follow online and don’t be afraid to reach out. You never know where a simple hello might take you. That being said, there’s only so much you can achieve online. Don’t underestimate an IRL connection. Yes, you might want to spend your non working hours binging on NetFlix but say yes to every invitation, coffee invite or a store opening, haul your ass up and say hello to your potential support network in person.

Learn to Sell Yourself

No one else is going to do this for you. Know your strengths and don’t be afraid to shout them from the rooftops. Get comfortable with highlighting what makes you stand out from the crowd. Success can be found one step out of your comfort zone…

Don’t be afraid to take action. Sometimes that step up requires you to put on your big girl pants and put yourself out there in ways you never have before. Pitch to that dream company, connect with that potential client and get ready to give yourself the biggest pep talk of your life.
