If you want to boost the energy efficiency and the cost-effectiveness as well as the resale value of your home, then you need to be making upgrades. You might not be looking to sell your house right now, but at some point in the future, you might look to sell it so that you can gain something back for it and buy an even bigger house. If you decide to build a house, you will have the ability to choose the items that will make you happiest. There are plenty of must-have home upgrades involved when you commence construction of a dream house.

And that’s all well and good, but you have to look at your existing house first. For example, if your existing house needs roof repair, you’re going to struggle to get it sold on the market as is. Instead, you need to invest in it and make the repairs that are necessary so that you can get the house off the market and somebody else can take it from you to upgrade your house today, you need to make sure that it’s sustainable. When you are designing a home for sustainability. You will help it to stand the test of time and it will feel brand new when you decide to sell it. Almost all house and land packages now offer inclusions that are value added upgrades. So let’s take a look at some of the upgrades that you could make for your home.

  • Upgrade the roof. If you haven’t already, make sure that you’ve had your roof inspected to know that it’s in the best possible condition. Upgrading it can be something as simple as changing up the gutter so that it’s not damaged or rotting anymore, or replacing shingles with a different colour. Upgrading a roof doesn’t have to be a huge job, but you do have to have the experts on hand to help you. It’s going to help you to have a much more livable and comfortable home when you upgrade your roof.
  • Move into the kitchen. The next thing to look at is the kitchen bench tops and the storage. The kitchen is the heart of the home for a reason, so it makes good sense to upgrade it in a way that keeps the kitchen set apart from everybody else. Start with the materials of the bench top and the designs. Your kitchen should be a simple and easy one to move around, and the kitchen bench top should be durable and timeless. Not only do you want to use it now, but you want to make sure that others can use it later.
  • Call the electrician. A good home upgrade for you would be to change out your electrical outlets or upgrade the wiring in your home. If your home was built more than 20 years ago, you might find that installing electrical outlets in a technology driven world is going to be an easier thing to do now than it would have been then. Have an electrician come in and build in some dual outlets with USB ports in key areas of the home. Or be smart about the placement with hidden PowerPoints that can pop out of the kitchen bench tops.
  • Upgrade the insulation. Without the right insulation, you’re going to have a home that is too cold and won’t keep hold of the heat when you need it to. Insulation should be in the roof, the walls and the floors and that could close the gaps where air can pass. As the heat will flow from the warmer to the colder areas, the warm air will stay inside the house during winter rather than escaping and making you feel chilly.
  • Upgrade your heating and cooling. When was the last time you had your HVAC system looked at? You need it to be cooling and heating your home properly, and that means looking at how you can save money. Increasing your resale value is important, but your new HVAC will save you from excessive repair and energy expenses in the future if it’s fixed up and working now.
  • Upgrade your outdoor area. Most home buyers will look for outdoor areas for their kids and pets and to be more social. You can design your alfresco area for outdoor gatherings, making a brand new deck or dining area outside. This is one of the best upgrades you could have because in the meantime you get a great outdoor area to use until you move.
