Classic Capsule Pieces for SS18

Untitled #48
After throwing away half of my wardrobe in January (I was super ruthless with my spring and summer clothes and threw away anything that I hadn’t worn for the past two years). I’m in the process of creating a capsule wardrobe for spring and summer and I have my eye on a number of classic pieces that I can pull out season after season. All I have left after my clear out is a couple of Maje summer dresses, a white lace co-ord from Alice and Olivia which quite frankly I’ll be wearing when I’m 80 because it was the most expensive outfit I own,  ripped jeans, a Roland Mouret pencil skirt that I got in the sale for an absolute bargain, a few silk camis and my fave Chloe Drew bag. Things I need include lightweight knits, a classic jacket/blazer/coat, dresses I can wear both day and night and of course a new day bag. Here’s a rundown of the pieces that are currently at the very top of my wish list.

First up is a classic camel trench coat. This type of coat is something that comes back into style every year around this time and it looks just as good over jeans and a top as it does over your favourite summer dresses. I’ve ummed and ahhed over buying a trench coat for ages and I think this year I’ll take the plunge. Aquascutum has some incredible options. These types of purchases are pricey, but I prefer a wardrobe that’s made up of quality, timeless pieces and this coat fits the bill. It’s an investment piece for sure, but it’s the perfect transitional wardrobe staple for spring.

Next up is the ultimate summer dress. You know the one that you can wear to almost anything that you can’t wait to show off. This is it! Layer it with a cosy cardigan and style it with suede knee-high boots when the weather is a little cooler or wear it alone during the summer months. Going away somewhere fabulous? Have an abroad wedding? This is the dress you need in your life. I’m obsessed with Zimmermann and it’s a label I’m going to add to my repertoire this season. I may just have to remortgage my house to do so.

Everyone needs a go-to lightweight knit to throw on with jeans and I’ve found just the thing. I’m a stickler for wearing black but this year I’m determined to lighten up in the wardrobe department. This Michael Kors pastel metallic knit is currently in the sale here and it’s also currently in my shopping cart. Shall I click the check out button?

My nude Valentino courts didn’t survive my last trip to the races (always wear heel stoppers ladies) so I’m looking for a replacement. These Jimmy Choo courts are in the shade ballet pink and they’ll go with pretty much everything.

Speaking of footwear, I’ve also got my eye on the Chloe Susanna studded ankle boot (although Topshop does a pretty great dupe) but I don’t have the best luck with footwear especially pastel pink suede. Every blogger in the world has these but I can feel myself being lured in. Perhaps a really really early birthday present?

Ok, on to day bags. I want one that is versatile, not back-breakingly large but still substantial to carry the weight of my many many essentials. Also delicate enough to wear with summer dresses on holiday but not ultra girly. I don’t ask for much, do I? This one is by Mansur Gavriel. Look at the bow detail. SOLD.

No capsule wardrobe is complete without accessories. I’ve yet to buy into the designer belt trend. In fact, I don’t think I own one single belt but this one is trying to sway me.
Complete your capsule wardrobe with a pair of jewelled round frames and a set of wear-with-anything Kendra Scott gold bangles.
