Your A/W Accessory Checklist

Ooh, there’s a slight chill in the air today and I can’t wait to pull my favourite cosy capes and scarves out of the wardrobe. I’m in the mood to shop. Just me? I did a post all about my summer timeless accessories  a while back, so I thought it would be fun to do an Autumn version. I’m talking statement watches, handbags and seasonal socks. With the fall season in full swing, it’s time to give your wardrobe an update. Here are 11 must-have accessories to help create the capsule wardrobe of your dreams.

Timeless Watches

Watches are worn year round, but that doesn’t mean their style stays the same. I’m on the look out for a bold black leather number and MVMT’s collection of both Men’s and Women’s watches have caught my eye. I’m in love with everything on this site. Gold bands and watch faces are the most appropriate colour choices for this time of year but I love black as it looks great throughout winter too.

Cosy Cable Knit Scarves (with pom poms naturally)

As the weather gets colder, it’s time to bundle up. Scarves are perhaps the simplest seasonal accessory to update your look for this time of year. Oversized flannel wrap-arounds are one of my personal favorites. The more blanket like the better. Chunky, cable-knit scarves are also a great option. Aim for autumnal hues such as brown, burgundy, burnt sienna, olive green, or creamy white.

Trendy Hats

Hats are perfect for those wet and windy days, but they’re also a great way to complement any outfit. Anthropologie’s variety of hat styles allow you to play around with your look. A few options include the panama, rancher, fedora, baseball cap, and floppy brim. I’ve been obsessed with this store ever since it popped up in Victoria Gate and while their summer accessories are stunning their A/W offering is just dreamy.

Beanies

Beanies are great for keeping your head warm, but they also add extra flair to any outfit. Not everyone can pull them off and I always love them on others but struggle to find one that suits me. Try a loose-fitted slouchy beanie for a more casual look. If you’re looking for something more fashionable, buy a beanie with a pom pom topping.

Black Leather with Gold Metallic Details

Black leather is great for the fall season due to its ruggedness, durability, and colour shade. You can find so many different ways to add a rustic touch to any outfit with a leather accessory. Some examples include leather keychains, purses, bracelets and watch straps, wallets, earphone, belts and more. I’m still tempted by the YSL belt even if it is a bit of a cliché.

Ankle Boots

Everyone looks forward to fall and the opportunity it brings to bust out your favourite boots. There are so many choices when it comes to choosing your favourite pair: ankle booties, calf-high riding boots, knit sweater-lined cuffs. And it doesn’t stop there. Choose between flats or heels, slouchy or straight, zippers or lace-ups. The opportunities are endless! I’m still wearing my old faithful DKNY boots that I got last year.

Thigh High Socks

What’s a good pair of boots without a cute pair of socks to complement them? Thigh-highs are fantastic when you feel like wearing a dress or skirt but don’t want to leave your legs exposed to the cold. Have fun with patterns and pick up a pair adorned with leaves. To fold over boots, find knit socks in neutral colours. If you’re lounging around the house, be sure to have a warm, cable-knit pair on hand.

Pretty and Practical Gloves

Whether you’re fighting cold weather or heating up your street style, pick up a pair of gloves this fall. Long gloves are high-fashion accessories that demand attention. Shorter, wrist-length styles are more muted and practical. To stand out in a crowd, find a pair embellished with studs or tassels, or sport a set in polka dots or plaid.

Handbags and Purses

I recently heard that like the seasons, handbags also need to be in rotation. I’m ditching my red canvas Micheal Kors summer bag and bringing out my black Givenchy Antigona which is much more applicable for this time of year. I recommend avoiding bright colours and opting instead for earthy, autumnal hues. I’m on the hunt for a bag in an oxblood shade. Bohemian embellishments and leather tassels add a stylish, finishing touch. Choose between cross-body slings, messenger bags, slouchy satchels, petite coats, or simple clutches.

Boho Necklaces

Boho necklaces are a must-have accessory for fall. If you’re wearing high-cropped shirts, consider a shorter chained adorned with large beads or charms to spice up an otherwise bland outfit. A delicate chain featuring a simple leaf is a beautiful and simple autumn-inspired accessory. Stay away from silver and opt for rose gold or copper chains instead. I’m planning in a visit to Monica Vinader next week when I’m in London. *Apologises to bank balance*

Earthy Gemstones

Fall is the time to get in touch with nature, and what better way than incorporating some earthy gemstones into your accessory collection? Citrine is a yellow-orange variation of quartz, and the warm hue is a perfect complement to the season. With shorter days and longer nights, dark jewels are appropriate, making Onyx a suitable choice. Look for jewellery with gemstones to complete your fall ensemble.
