Step Away from the Cake: A Fitness Update

img_6145-1

I have a love/hate relationship with fitness. Some days I’m all about the protein smoothies and others I’m neck deep in Nutella but even I have to admit that I’m leaning more towards the love side of late. I absolutely adore reading about other people’s health and fitness updates and it’s been a while since my last one. I’ve decided to do monthly fitness blog posts to help keep me on track but also to inspire you on your own fitness journey. So, here are just a few of the healthy bits and bobs I’ve been loving this month, the workouts I’ve been doing, the fitness events I’ve attended and the latest additions to my workout wardrobe. *inserts bicep emoji*

My Protein Pre Workout

So, the most recent addition to my workout routine is the peach tea pre-workout supplement from My Protein. I’ve never used a pre-workout supplement before but this one tastes like my favourite Starbucks peach tea and it gives me a nice energy boost before my gym classes without that awful jittery feeling. Now, I think my body is quite sensitive to caffeine, most products I’ve tried in the past have made me want to clean my house at 80 mph but this gets me psyched about my gym class without keeping me awake all night contemplating a quick 10k around my estate. I always thought that pre-workout was something real gym-goers took and wasn’t something I would benefit from but it seems that actually being a proper gym goer has crept up on me and I’m in danger of actually getting fitter and seeing improvements. Therefore, I do need products to fuel my sessions. I’m going to do a full post on the supplements I take next week. I’d like to say at this point, that I’m not qualified to advise you on health and fitness in any way, these are just a few recent additions to my routine that work for me and that I wish someone had told me about. So, if you want more energy, this product could be for you.

I was invited to the launch of the My Protein women’s active range in Cheshire last week and we were treated to a core workout with the lovely Louise Thompson from Made in Chelsea. I’m not sure if working out in a sports bra will ever be something I could work towards but it was nice to discover the women’s fitness range in more detail and find out how we can increase our energy and smash our gym sessions (even if it came with side of extreme ab envy). The pre workout is now something I take 20 mins before each workout and I genuinely feel it has made a difference to my performance.

James White Ginger Zinger Shots

Oh, I’m quite obsessed with ginger shots at the moment. These  little shots of goodness are a new addition to my daily routine and I find they really do give me a bit of get up and go on a morning. I don’t drink coffee so I’m always on the look out for anything to boost my energy levels. I was kindly sent a selection of Zingers to try, some of which are infused with lime, turmeric and chilli, some just plain old ginger. The original ginger flavour and the lime are my favourites but the chilli one is nice and spicy if you like that sort of thing. I’m definitely going to restock my fridge with the plain ginger shots as they are packed with goodness and are great for kicking your immune system into gear in time for the winter. Sniffles be gone!

Fabletics Gym Leggings

It’s been a while since I invested in any new gym kit so I took to Twitter a couple of weeks ago to get a recommendation for non see-through gym leggings and the lovely @SamWardPR pointed me in the direction of the Salar leggings from Fabletics. Buying them wasn’t an easy process as if you buy one off pieces they are super expensive and you have to sign up to a subscription if you want to get the best prices. So, that’s what I did and the rules, for those interested, are you become a VIP and you get sent personal recommendations each month. If you don’t want to buy anything one month you simply skip it before the 5th and you won’t be charged. The Sala leggings are the comfiest leggings I’ve ever owned and have maximum support on the stomach area which I love. They suck you in in all the right places and are quite thick so offer the warmth I need when exercising outside. They are, as promised, not at all see-through. I was really surprised by the quality of these leggings and they are one of the few styles I’ve bought that I would consider wearing outside of the gym.

Implexus MCT Classes

MCT classes are not a new addition to my fitness routine, in fact I’ve been doing them since May *smug face* and the results have been amazing. If you follow me on snapchat, you may have seen a few glimpses into my gym routine and while it looks a little scary, it’s so much more rewarding than running on a treadmill. But I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard. So hard that sometimes, I forget where I parked my car after a session, so hard that I sit in the car for at least half an hour before I can summon the energy to get out. Before joining Implexus gym, my gym attendance was very hit and miss.  I started with two MCT classes a week and then added in a killer hour long weekend class to burn off those extra calories I like to consume. The class size is small which I love as it means you won’t ever just be left to your own devices and your technique will improve over time. You can see a video of what my classes are like here. If you fancy trying it out for yourself, you can book a class here. The workouts are intense but it’s good to push yourself and know that you are progressing each week. I try to add in another session per week on my own where I would do interval sprints in my local park or try something new like a pilates reformer class (see my initial thoughts on that here).

If you have recently posted about your fitness routine, leave me a link in the comments as these posts are genuinely my favourite to read. Lastly, my very first VLOG went live a week ago and I plan to do weekly vlogs so pop over and subscribe! Also, when I said step away from the cake, I meant step away from the cake, unless it’s Bake Off day of course, then you should step closer and closer and enjoy.
