The Gin Explorer Subscription Box Review

There really is a subscription box for everything now isn’t there? Gym clothes, healthy snacks, period rescue kits, beauty products and now gin! Praise the Lord, we can now get our gin and tonic fix without leaving the house. When this glorious little box arrived from Gin Explorer filled with some of the world’s best gins, unsurprisingly my spirits were high. I’ll take a gin subscription box over a few beauty samples any day of the week. So, before we all jump on the sober October bandwagon, let’s take a peek at the perks of joining a gin subscription (lots of gin, lovely gin).

I don’t know at what point I became a gin lover but it was some time between abandoning my staple vodka lime and lemonade tipple that saw me through uni and discovering my love of flavoured tonics. I’m definitely a bit of a tonic snob and Fever-Tree is my all time favourite brand. So, what are my first impressions? Well, unlike some subscription boxes, it is clear that a lot of thought has been put into it. The subscription service is designed to take you on a journey of exploration and so it’s no surprise that the box itself is designed to look like a suitcase and inside is a little booklet that serves as a map.

I received the August box so you don’t have to worry about spoilers should you wish to order this month’s box. August’s box contained four exciting new gins to try none of which I had heard of before and the booklet informed me that they were from Belgium, Shropshire, Telford and London. It also gives you cocktail suggestions and lots of lovely discounts should you love one of the mini bottles enough to consider stocking up on the full size bottle. If gin is your tipple, this box is a great way to expand your knowledge of the various gins out there and it also makes you sound all fancy and clever when you are out on the town.

Out of the four gins, the X-Gin was my favourite. It has a really sweet taste and each bottle comes with a tin of cocoa nibs to garnish your drink. There are so many things that I love about the Gin Explorer box. It’s a great little gift idea for someone who likes their gin but it’s great for you if you like interesting mixers as well as mysterious gin brands. The box included one new tonic launch from Fever Tree. The Mediterranean tonic will add floral notes to your G & T while the Aromatic tonic offers a hint of spice and citrus notes. Included was also some snacks from the Biltong Company.

The best bit? You won’t get sucked into a monthly subscription unless of course you want to. You can order a one off box before you commit for £24.99, a three month subscription for £69.99 or a year for £279.99 here.
