How to Be a Good Friend

There are some people in my life that I quite simply couldn’t live without so when Huggle asked me to make a list of things that make someone a good friend, I got to thinking about the qualities of those closest to me and what makes our bond so special. I know that I’m extremely lucky to have such an amazing friendship group because once you leave school or university, it’s actually not that easy to make new friends that you instantly click with. So, what is Huggle all about you may ask? It’s an exciting new social app that helps you discover new friends that share the same interests. So, if you like to eat cake on Saturdays in Bettys, this App will help you connect with others who share your obsession for fat rascals and fondant fancies. Amazing no? You can download it and give it a try here.

Check in Daily

Now, I’m really quite bad at this as once I’m at my computer writing, I’m in the zone and hours can fly by without me even realising but I have one friend that I don’t go a day without texting and her messages really do brighten my day. As a freelancer, I’m used to spending long hours on my own working on projects so a little bit of interaction is always welcome. Whether it’s an update on her diet (8961 biscuits consumed *guilty face*) or a picture of Britney’s abs to encourage me to get my ass in the gym, these little updates always make me smile throughout the day particularly if I’m writing about something ridiculously boring (bi-fold doors I’m looking at you).

Support Their Passions

I often hear from fellow bloggers that their friends don’t understand their love of blogging so they tend to not discuss it with them. Now my friends don’t read my blog religiously but those likes on my Instagram or comments on my blog posts always make me happy. Whatever your friend is passionate about, it’s nice to be a part of it and show your support (even if you hate waiting an hour to eat your brunch because I’m trying to get that perfect Instagram worthy shot). So whether your bestie has just hit a personal best in the gym or she has written a new blog post, get favouriting those tweets and don’t hesitate to celebrate even the smallest achievement even if it is just that she managed to resist that third glass of wine. *claps vigorously*

Always Have Their Favourite Snacks to Hand

Snacks make every occasion more fun so whether your bestie is coming over to fill you in on all of the latest relationship drama or you are binge watching PLL, having her favourite snacks to hand will always give you major friend points.  I’m fussy with food but my friends know that if there is a cheese sandwich in the house I’ll be over the moon so whether it’s a BBQ or a dinner party, my friends will always be on hand with the halloumi. I have one friend who will always carry car snacks in her bag in case we get hungry on the way somewhere even if we are just driving a short way. #friendgoals

Send Them Snaps of Things You Know They will Love

Her favourite McFlurry is back at McDonalds for a limited time only. *snap* There’s a dress that would be perfect for that wedding she is going to. *snap* There’s a dog wearing sunglasses in the park. *snap* I finally managed to make the perfect poached egg. Everyone loves an I saw this and thought of you snap so get snapping.

Send Them Post

Now, anyone who knows me will know how much I love a hand written card/receiving post. Everyone loves post but one thing better than post is surprise post. A just because letter often means more than a card they may be expecting as you took the time out of your day to do something nice for them whether they live in the same city or a different country. One of my best friends sent me a giant cupcake just because she knew how much I would love it. Needless to say we are now friends for life.

Having friends that know you often better than you know yourself is one of the best feelings and I’m truly lucky to have a handful of people that I could truly depend on regardless. I think it’s the small things that make a big difference when it comes to being a good friend.

Have you tried Huggle? What does friendship mean to you? Leave me a comment with the nicest thing your bestie has done for you or the nicest thing you have done for your bestie.

Bestie memories , there are too many to choose from !flowers on my birthday( even though the neighbour stole them and displayed them in her window ) a little yellow book of my favourite mystery stories that I can take on a flight instead of my massive book for extra handbag room for makeup and snacks, shared wanderlust and exploits from these travels, daily updates on life’s struggles #diets#momsbadbehaviours#beinganadult…
Mainly the ability to make me laugh daily ❤️ I love my bestie xoxo
