The Real Price of Beauty

This isn’t my usual rant about my favourite beauty products or why you should rush out and buy my new favourite detox tea (you should, it’s amazing) but it is beauty related. Something a little bit disturbing happened to me yesterday. Don’t worry my HD brows are perfectly symmetrical. I went through the motions of my mani/pedi routine and opted for a cheeky spray tan (British weather I despise you). Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Neom

However, when I went to pay for my treatment, there was a shiny Neom gift bag brimming with goodies on the counter. I put in my pin, taking a sneak peak at the bag, wondering if I should buy some lovely Neom goodies for the road when the lovely Kim pushed the bag towards me and and said ‘These are for you’. Shocked I mentally ran through the possible reasons why I should be worthy of a gift. An early birthday gift perhaps? A very early happy housewarming? A thank you for blogging about my love of Kim’s many fabulous treatments? Nope. It turns out that over the past four years of ‘popping in’ for nail appointments, spray tans, brow treatments, massages, facials, lashes and basically anything else I can try, I’ve spent more than any of her other customers. I am officially Koko Beauty’s biggest spender. Taken aback, I tried to justify this news by reasoning that I was probably her longest standing client but I was still slightly mortified. A small voice in my head was asking how much you would have to spend to be a salon’s biggest spender and how a couple of nail appointments here and a brow shape there could add up.

As someone who has just entered the complicated and financially strained world of getting a mortgage, an even scarier thought struck me. Could the money I have spent on general maintenance/upkeep have paid for my deposit? Or worse a Celine?? Perhaps a pair of louboutons and the full counter of Creme De La Mer? A yacht? OK so probably not a yacht. Lovely readers, if my boyfriend asks they were a housewarming gift. Financially sensible Boyfriend, if you are reading this, you may not understand spending half your wage on having nice nails and a deep yet subtle glow but keep in mind, if I’m not paying for it, someone else is going to have to. 🙂 On a slightly more positive note, our new home and I are very excited about the Neom Diffuser and candles!

Leave me a comment with your Neom must haves as I feel like this will be just the beginning of my love affair with this brand. I’ve heard rumours that they do 3 wick candles. I’m already becoming one of those annoying new home scent obsessives.

How much do you spend on beauty? Do you dare add it up?
