How to Holiday Like a Celebrity

I spent last night trawling the Internet for a luxury Maycation. Forget budget airlines and package deals, I want cabanas, cocktails and poolside massages. Here are a few ways to add a bit of A List glam to your vacation.

Charter a Private Jet

Celebrities are like a creature of no other and you probably won’t see them hopping on a Ryan Air flight to discover the delights of the Costa Del Sol. Many celebs have realised that airport queues, paparazzi and passport control procedures are not worth the worry lines and have found a much simpler way of travelling in style. For celebs private jet charter is as simple as flagging a taxi and they can enjoy complete privacy from prying eyes. Private jet cost per flight isn’t cheap but can you put a price on luxury?

Can’t afford to charter a private jet? Panic not. Choose a regular airline and blag a free upgrade. Long haul flights are no fun if they don’t involve free pots of Haagen Dazs ice cream and seats that morph into beds. If you have ever made it into the glossy cabins of First Class you will know just how the other half live.

There are a few known tips that can make getting into first class a piece of cake.

  • Be loyal to your airline. Virgin and British Airways have fab reward systems that can have you stacking up the air miles at speed. You are more likely to be given an upgrade if you are a fully fledged airline groupie.
  • Look the part: Turning up to the airport in your oldest pair of trackies and your old faithful Uggs is never going to get you in to First Class. Looking good will give you the confidence to ask for an upgrade and you will be glad you made the effort when you find out your sitting next to Kanye or a member of the Kardashians.
  • Make friends: Failing all of the above, knowing someone on the ‘inside’ is the simplest way to get that upgrade. This is how I got a First Class ticket to NYC.

Visit a Private Island

It doesn’t get any better than owning your very own stretch of sand or visiting a fellow celeb’s private island.

Tip: If you can’t afford your own private island, go online to find how you can afford your own slice of paradise. Secret Escapes take the hard work out of finding a luxury holiday and they can also help you save those precious pennies. I booked a luxury trip to Fort Lauderdale with them last summer and stayed in the stunning Atlantic Resort and Spa. Thanks to the team at Secret Escapes, we were given a complimentary upgrade to a suite with a sea view as well as 70% off our the price of our accommodation.

Detox Darling

If rumours are true, this is exactly what Beyonce and Gwyneth have planned for their next getaway. Blissful Yoga sessions on the beach as the sun rises, delicious juices and a spot of pampering is the perfect line up for frazzled yoga bunnies in need of a beak. There are hundreds of yoga retreats to suit budgets of all sizes.
