The Champagne Lady Betty Afternoon Tea £39.95 pp

If you read my blog regularly, you will know I’m partial to an afternoon tea or twelve but you may also have noticed that my Instagram has been fairly lacking in sweet treats recently due to my healthy pre-honeymoon regime. So, when I was invited to try the Lady Betty afternoon tea, I was more than a little excited about having an indulgent day. I used to go to Bettys every weekend with my Mum and Auntie when I was growing up so this little tea room always brings back lovely memories but just when you think you have experienced all Bettys has to offer they design an irresistible afternoon tea that is perfect in every way. What better way to spend an autumnal afternoon?

The Lady Betty champagne afternoon tea is so special it even has it’s very own menu and there are so many exciting courses that a waitress talks you through it while you are choosing your favourite tea. Our waitress was lovely, always on hand to make sure our experience was perfect. After the champagne is poured you are presented with miniature pre-afternoon tea treats that included the poshest pork pie I’ve ever seen, a delicious smoked salmon and cream cheese bellini and a shot of prawns and avocado. Having mini courses makes this a totally different afternoon tea experience and everything is mouth-sized so you don’t have to worry about getting full before the main event (I always fill up on the savouries). If you have an excessive sweet tooth, you can always use these savoury treats as bargaining tools in the hope that your dining partner won’t make you share you the pink chocolate mousse square. (Trust me, you must try the pink chocolate mousse square).

The Lady Betty afternoon tea truly has something for everyone. From mini meringues to macaroons and chocolate delights, the top tier is almost too pretty to eat. Almost.

The best thing about is is everything is just the right size. Sometimes, I have afternoon tea and come away feeling like I can’t eat for a week. Lady Betty afternoon tea is rich enough to be satisfying without feeling like you need to take a nap afterwards. It beats every other afternoon tea I’ve tried hands down.

The pink chocolate dessert is probably the most delicious thing I have ever tasted in my 30 years of life and it was so incredible I will probably dream about it. The chocolate praline oblong is also worth every calorie not forgetting the lavender and sultana scones with lashings of cream and jam. We dined in the Imperial Room, which is located a floor above the traditional Bettys Tea Room. It has a very different vibe to the cafe bar and is, if possible, even more refined. A pianist creates the perfect atmosphere making the whole experience delightful while the staff ensure your dining experience exceeds your every expectation. Just when you think you couldn’t be having more fun, a waitress floats by offering to replenish your favourite sandwiches.

I opted for the Gunpowder green tea (in an attempt to cancel out the calories) which complemented the desserts perfectly while my Mum ordered the afternoon tea blend. I wore my stretchiest skirt, my all time favourite Zara cape coat and Wolford’s new Pure 50 tights which are as soft as silk. I’m a bit of a hosiery snob and I just can’t get enough of Wolford’s new collection.

After a peek at all of the Christmassy delights in the window, we toddled home feeling festive. Thanks for having us Bettys!
