Unexpected Luxury at Centre Parcs

Champneys, Ragdale Hall, Barnsley House and Centre Parcs just a few of the places that spring to mind when thinking about the most luxurious spa retreats the UK has to offer. Centre Parcs? Yes, you heard right. You won’t find the Centre Parcs Spa listed on the Conde Nast Traveller’s prestigious Gold List but in my opinion is it up there with the best of the best in terms of luxury, relaxation, spa treatments and facilities. Eaten too much Christmas pudding? I couldn’t think of a better place to relax and detox in a fluffy white robe.

This may be hard for you to believe but at the age of 26 I have yet to experience the wonder that awaits at Centre Parcs. Until Yesterday that is, when I packed my swimsuit and set off to discover a stunning spa retreat only a couple of hours away from my home. It may not be the coolest place in the world, you probably won’t spot any celebs and it’s no place for your favourite Louboutins but it is the perfect place for a day of fun as a couple, with friends or just a bit of good old quality time with the family. If you can’t afford a weekend at Champneys, panic not, didn’t you know there is a lovely spa located in the heart of Sherwood Forest?

I love the idea of a full day of relaxation but after 5 minutes in the steam room I’m ready to get out. Luckily, Centre Parcs has much more to offer than your average sauna and steam room. Two floors of pure luxury await you as you make your way from one lovely experience room to the next. Too hot? Chill out on the outdoor balcony and enjoy the fabulous forest setting while getting cozy under your own fur throw. A bit chilly? Try out the Japanese salt steam bath or sneek off to one of the cosy cocoons and listen to zen like music as your mind drifts.

Don’t worry, it’s not all sitting and sleeping. Hot chocolate, pancakes, waffles, fresh forest air and sublime scenery are just a few of the things that should be on your to do list. For adventure seekers there is also canoeing, cycling, water slides, rapids and waterskiing.

My Spa highlights:

  • Ice fountain
  • Japanese salt steam bath
  • Meditation room
  • Multisensory showers
  • The beauty demo
  • The Tepidarium
  • The water beds

Not a seasoned spa goer? Here are a few things you need to know:

  • Don’t apply fake tan or nail polish if you plan to book the fish pedicure
  • Say yes to the beauty demo. It is more exciting than you could ever imagine. Free DIY Elemis facials and a chance to try out the latest lotions and potions from Elemis and Decleor
  • Take flip flops especially if you plan to visit the Dome
  • Shhhhhhh! You may be asked to leave if you are too loud
